Flipnote – Kirby Bounce

Recently I tried to make a flipnote with the bouncy ball exercise to practice animation, but I also asked to myself: how can I make more interesting to watch?

After that, I turned the ball into Kirby and the hand into Master hand. I’m really sorry Kirby.

Step 1: Rough animation
Step 2: Clean animation

I improved the animation with some additional frames and I modified the hand to make movement look more natural.

Step 3: Coloring

Flipnote 21- Tabby Laugh

Look at Tabby, so full of herself! as you can see, I’m still experimenting with her expressions and playful behavior.

I won’t lie when I say that I always wanted to have a character that was able to reenact the “ojou laugh”… and after doing this, I think she’s the chosen one!

This isn’t the only way she laughs by the way, but it fits well for certain situations.

Flipnote 1- By the sea

Part of my practice to learn some basic animation techniques. Made in Flipnote Studio for the 3DS. This is the first one I’ve exported so far in a GIF format.

This app is really handy, being able to paint directly on the screen makes everything feel more natural. I just wish it had pressure sensitivity and a bigger screen… but hey, it’s something!
I’ve also been thinking about using these rough animations to polish them and make something more detailed. We’ll see how that ends up.

Keep in mind, this was one of the first of the series so it was obviously more rough and unpolished than the recent ones. I’ll try to make a more detailed version of this one as soon as I can

Happy Halloween (Edited With Process)

I made this comic for the last halloween, and I decided to make a small animation and submit it in .GIF format. One of the critiques I received was that you weren’t able to read it at your own pace because the GIF auto plays itself. I thought it was a fair comment, so I decided to fix the problem.

I started with a rough sketch to see how the comic would look as an animated GIF. After that, I cleaned up the animation, and I kept adding frames to make the transitions smoother.

The final piece has a different timing because of the additional frames. Some pauses were added to make it look more like an animation.

I think it’s cool that the process itself looks like a 3 panel comic.

Originally, this was going to be a 4 panel comic strip, but then I started wondering how it would look if I made it a gif. So, I kept adding frames and frames until it was good enough for the idea. This is my first attempt at making an animated comic (if you don’t count an animation that I made way back in 2008), so I hope you like it.

The style of the characters in this comic was inspired by this previous comic strip: Link

I know the idea might be a bit silly, but I think it wasn’t only just about the idea, but more like being able to give more life to the work that’s already out there. I will keep learning more fundamentals to see where that gets me. I already see lots of interesting things I can make with this style

You can also see the process of creation of this comic here in my patreon page, where you can support me to keep making adorable comics like this one, fan art and more stuff. Even the smallest amount would be of great help. Thanks a lot 🙂
